The most common ways in which new business owners are caught out are though verbal contracts:
- promising that they have the cheapest business energy
prices in your area
- threatening disconnection if you do not agree a contract immediately
- Offering to save you money by lowering your monthly direct debit payment. Only to find at a later date the prices you are paying are higher and your direct debit is increased a few months after the contract starts.
We have found these verbal contracts can be up to 40% higher than current market prices and once agreed can constitute a legally-binding contract. These long term contracts can then only be broken through paying a high penalty.
