Centrica has launched a new digital-only electricity service for UK SMEs.
The wholly online British Gas Lite gives SME business owners more control over their energy accounts.
Business customers will pay monthly for their electricity and the service includes a free smart meter, so SMEs can track their consumption.
Support is provided via a UK-based webchat team rather than a call centre.
The move comes after British Gas launched its first online-only tariff for domestic customers in October last year.
Rob Kerr, British Gas Lite director, said: “Long term innovation is central to meeting the needs of our customers.
“We have launched British Gas Lite to cater to demand from business customers for a smart product that is 100 per cent digital and feedback so far has been excellent.”
Richard Bonelle, energy manager at Utility Helpline said: “With lower running costs, British Gas Lite says that it will pass savings onto small and medium sized business customers.
“But it can go further as well. With a digital portal to manage accounts and smart meter technology on the ground, SME customers are in a great position to take control of their energy consumption and make sure it works for them.
“As this technology becomes more pervasive and suppliers look for different ways to add value for SME customers, we expect to see more of these tariffs.”
